Itajaí, Brazil, June 17, 2020. Three SAAM Towage tugs assisted the APL Paris, the largest container ship operating in Brazil. The vessel belongs to CMA CGM and docked yesterday in Portonave, at the Itajaí Port Complex.

SAAM Towage’s Country Manager in Brazil, Renata Ervilha, commented, “This operation marks a milestone and we are proud to have been part of this first-ever maneuver in the country. The vessel’s arrival marks a precedent for future operations for customers with large ships.”

These maneuvers, now called “ItajaíMax”, are governed by a new rule at the port complex (known in Portuguese as Portaria 38), which establishes operating parameters that authorize turning and reverse entry/exit for ships measuring up to 350 meters in length.

SAAM Towage is a leader in the provision of towage services in the Americas. In Brazil, it has a fleet of 48 tugs stationed at 13 important ports along the Brazilian coastline, from north to south.
