They will receive training in port maneuvers, special services, engineering, azimuthal vessels and onboard safety exercises.

Callao, March 17, 2023. SAAM Towage Peru and the Almirante Miguel Grau National Merchant Marine Academy (ENAMM) are continuing to train future professionals: a group of six cadets just began their pre-professional internships on board the company’s tugboats in the port of Callao.

“This is the second group of students we have received under the collaboration agreement we signed with ENAMM and it has been a very positive experience. We feel a duty to society to share the expertise of our crews,” said SAAM Towage Peru Country Manager Cristián Cifuentes.

He explained that the students, who are in their final year of the Deck and Engineering Program, will receive training in port maneuvers and in the areas of bridge, navigation and engineering, in addition to completing safety exercises on board. These internships will last for six months.

During their time on board, they must keep a training journal provided by ENAMM, which will be reviewed and validated by the SAAM Towage captains and chief engineers for them to officially complete the internship.

SAAM Towage began operating in Peru in April 2021, providing berthing and unberthing services for vessels. It has a fleet of ten tugs operating at 7 ports in the country.
