The award, earned for the fifth consecutive year in Costa Rica, marks a milestone since El Salvador and Guatemala have been included for the first time, consolidating the company’s environmental leadership in the region.

July 30, 2025 | SAAM Towage, America’s leading towing services company, was recognized for the fifth consecutive year with the prestigious Ecological Blue Flag award (PBAE) in the “Climate Change” category. This year, the award also includes the company’s operations in El Salvador and Guatemala.

The Ecological Blue Flag Program is an inter-institutional initiative in Costa Rica supported by entities such as the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) and the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), which recognizes various organizations for their good environmental practices and legal compliance in terms of sustainability.

“We are proud to once again receive the Ecological Blue Flag award, and especially proud to see our commitment to sustainability extend to new geographies. It is a testament to the continuous effort and dedication of our teams to minimize our environmental impact and foster a culture of sustainability throughout our operations,” said the SAAM Towage Central America’s cluster manager, Matia de Luiggi.

About the certification

In the “Climate Change” category, the program certifies measurable actions in the reduction of fossil fuel, electricity and water consumption, as well as wastewater management, waste, emissions, sustainable sourcing and climate adaptation. The recognition is in the form of white stars (1-6) for overall score and management, as well as special stars such as silver, green and orange, based on specific achievements.

  • Costa Rica: This year the company achieved its best result of the five consecutive years of certification, with 3 white stars for overall management and score and 1 silver star.
  • El Salvador: In its first time participating, it achieved a perfect score, obtaining 1 white star.
  • Guatemala: Also debuting this year, it scored 90 out of 100 points, receiving a white star. This achievement demonstrates a strong environmental commitment since joining the program.

“The need to renew certification annually ensures ongoing effort in implementing good environmental practices and allows us to involve the entire team in creating a more sustainable culture of growth, something that is part of our business strategy,” commented De Luiggi.
